General questions:
Learn about the basics of VPNs, how they work, the benefits they offer, and how Always Home IP can enhance your online security and privacy.
VPN stands for “virtual private network,” a service that protects your Internet connection and privacy online. It creates an encrypted tunnel for your data, protects your online identity by hiding your IP address, and allows you to use public Wi-Fi hotspots safely. VPNs are often used to guard against hackers and snoops on public networks, hide your IP address, and avoid geolocation restrictions.
Yes, you may notice a speed decrease when using a VPN. With Always Home IP, your speed is limited by your home Internet upload speed since all traffic is routed through your home Internet connection, and also by the hardware performance of your chosen Always Home IP package. However, the speed decrease is usually minimal and you will be able to do everything on the Internet as you would back at home. Additionally, you don't share your bandwidth with anyone else, ensuring consistent VPN speed.

Always Home IP also provides secure access to your home network from anywhere. Your VPN server is hosted at your home and your VPN client always travels with you, ensuring full control and ownership of your VPN infrastructure.
Always Home IP is absolutely safe and secure. By using leading-edge VPN protocols, your traffic and data are secure in transit. No, but you need a public IPv4 address, which can be either static or dynamic. Our VPN routers have a built-in dynamic DNS function, updating the DNS record whenever your home IP address changes.
If you are moving homes or relocating your VPN server, please book a 1-on-1 session from your Always Home IP account page, and our expert will handle the new setup for you.
Every country has a different stance on VPNs, and not all see them favorably. VPNs are regulated or illegal in some countries. Always Home IP works in most countries where VPNs are regulated, but that might change. Currently, it does not work in Egypt, Iran, North Korea, and Uzbekistan. In Saudi Arabia, it might not work, or might require additional settings, depending on the ISP. Always Home IP works in China temporarily until it gets blocked and requires assistance to function again. It currently works without problems in UAE, India, Turkey, Russia, Qatar, and Pakistan.
